Overview - Yamaha MT-10 2022 vs Yamaha MT-09 2021

The Yamaha MT-10 2022 and the Yamaha MT-09 2021 are both naked bikes with similar engine types, fuel systems, and suspension setups. However, there are several key differences between the two models.

In terms of engine power, the Yamaha MT-10 2022 has a significant advantage with 166 HP compared to the Yamaha MT-09 2021's 119 HP. This higher power output makes the MT-10 more suitable for riders seeking a more exhilarating and powerful riding experience.

The torque figures also differ, with the MT-10 producing 112 Nm compared to the MT-09's 93 Nm. This means that the MT-10 will have more low-end grunt and better acceleration, especially in lower gears.

Both bikes have liquid cooling and use fuel injection systems, ensuring optimal engine performance and efficiency. The Yamaha MT-10 2022 has four cylinders and a displacement of 998 ccm, while the MT-09 2021 has three cylinders and a displacement of 889 ccm. The additional cylinder in the MT-10 provides smoother power delivery and potentially better overall engine performance.

In terms of suspension, both bikes feature upside-down telescopic forks at the front and swing arm suspension at the rear. The shock absorbers are also monoshocks on both models. This setup ensures good handling and stability for both bikes.

The chassis of both bikes is made of aluminum, which provides a good balance between strength and weight. However, the frame type differs, with the MT-10 featuring a Deltabox frame and the MT-09 having a Twin Tube frame. The Deltabox frame on the MT-10 is known for its rigidity and stability, while the Twin Tube frame on the MT-09 offers a good compromise between rigidity and flexibility.

Both bikes have double disc brakes at the front, but the diameter differs. The MT-10 has larger 320 mm discs compared to the MT-09's 298 mm discs. This larger diameter provides better stopping power and heat dissipation for the MT-10.

Pros and Cons in comparison

Yamaha MT-10 2022

Yamaha MT-10 2022

The new MT-10 is a really successful evolution of its predecessor, but remains completely true to its character. The new electronics package with a 6-axis IMU is a blast, all features are so well coordinated and work so well together that the rider is optimally supported by the electronics in every situation without being overbearingly patronised. The rest of the components in the chassis and brakes are completely in order and the Mad Max-Brachialo style look has been toned down a little in direct comparison to the predecessor, but still remains unique and clearly recognisable as an MT-10.

Yamaha MT-09 2021

Yamaha MT-09 2021

The ingredients for the 2021 update are right: More power, more equipment, more electronics, less weight. If you take a look at the key data of the latest MT-09, including its over-complete standard equipment, "mid-range naked bike" almost sounds a bit pejorative. The Japanese engineers have made improvements exactly where they were needed. The swaying chassis is now a thing of the past and the load change reactions have also been eliminated from the revised three-cylinder engine. The additional power paired with a little more pressure in the mid-range gives a sovereign riding feeling. The MT-09 offers a lot of equipment and enormous riding pleasure at a very attractive price. If you like the look, you can buy it without hesitation.
